Steel is Everywhere!

Steel is everywhere! Recyclers have been selling it as scrap, in all sorts of ways since WWII. What happens to it once it is bought? Besides construction and automotive industries, designers have used the material incessantly for furniture as well as art. In the 1970’s Francois Monnet designed tables and chairs for the Kappa factory in France. His pieces are sleek, elegant and timeless and still available today. FrenchDibs was able to acquire an original set of three pieces! These are outstanding examples of the use of steel as entire sheets that are bent and folded to create chairs and a coffee table base. In the 1980’s, the Palais Royale in Paris also got steel! A fountain composed of steel oversized globes by Pol Bury. The fountain sits surrounded by the famous columns by Daniel Buren. Don’t miss them if you are in Paris!
